Golden Eaglets secure Ghana clash in WAFU B semifinals

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets battled to a goalless draw with Burkina Faso to secure top spot in Group B and a place in the semifinals of the WAFU B U17 Championship in Côte d’Ivoire.

The match, played at the Stade du Lycée Scientifique in Yamoussoukro, saw both sides finish the group stage with four points. But Nigeria’s superior goal difference, thanks to their 4-1 win over Benin Republic in the opening game, proved decisive.

Head coach Manu Garba’s side began on the front foot, dominating possession and pressing high in search of an opener.

Precious chances fell their way but were not converted, while Burkina Faso’s goalkeeper stood firm.

The Burkinabe posed a threat on the counterattack, forcing the Eaglets into moments of defensive alertness, yet they too failed to find a breakthrough.

At the final whistle, Nigeria’s frustration at missed opportunities was tempered by the reward of progression.

The result confirmed the Golden Eaglets as Group B winners, setting up a semi-final showdown against arch-rivals Ghana, who finished second in Group A.

Hosts Côte d’Ivoire, with three wins from three, will meet Burkina Faso in the other semifinal.
