Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially approved the composition of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 23rd National Sports Festival, Enugu 2026.
Daniel Onwuegbulam, Director of Information at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, announced this in a statement on Monday, highlighting that the committee comprises professionals with extensive experience in sports administration, event management, and youth development.
The committee, chaired by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu Jr., has been carefully selected to ensure the successful planning and execution of the festival.

List of Committee Members
The approved members of the LOC include:
Olumide Bamiduro – Renowned sports management expert and former national badminton champion, serving as Secretary General.
Onyali Mary – Former international athlete with extensive global sporting experience.
Akazu Aku – Respected lawyer with a specialization in sports management.
Okorie Victor – Elite athlete representative and member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.
Ekwe Blessing Chisalam – COO of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria and a FIFA-licensed agent.
Owumi Davidson – Seasoned sports administrator, current COO of the Nigeria Professional Football League, and former General Manager of Enugu Rangers.
Ugwu Tony – Chairman of the Enugu State Football Association.
Okorie Henry Chinedu – Executive Member of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Nigerian Athletics Athletes Commission.
Nnaji Jonathan – President of Nigeria’s Modern Pentathlon Federation, Vice President of the Africa Modern Pentathlon Confederation, and Executive Board Member of the Nigeria Olympic Committee.
Onovo Boniface – Director of Organising, Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Ochonma Ephraim – Director of Coaching, Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Obasi Obiora – Technical Assistant to the Honourable Commissioner, Enugu State Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Government Confident in LOC’s Ability to Deliver a World-Class Event
The Enugu State Government has expressed full confidence in the LOC’s ability to organise a successful National Sports Festival, emphasizing its role in fostering athletic excellence, promoting national unity, and driving economic growth.

Speaking on the development, Honourable Commissioner Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu Jr. reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering an event of international standards.
“This committee consists of some of the most experienced and capable individuals in the sports industry, with their expertise and the government’s unwavering support, Enugu 2026 will be a landmark event that leaves a lasting legacy.” he stated.
As preparations begin, all eyes are on Enugu State to set new standards for the National Sports Festival and cement its place as a premier sports hub in Nigeria.
