Super Eagles and Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has described his Premier League debut as the most important moment of his career.
The 25-year-old joined Fulham from Ajax in 2023 for €22.5m and has since established himself as a key figure in Marco Silva’s team.
Making my debut in the Premier League. As a child, I always dreamt of playing in the Premier League. So, to be able to achieve it was a big moment for me and one I cherish,” Bassey told his representatives, Unique Sports Group UK.
The Nigerian international has made 69 appearances for Fulham, scoring three goals — two of which came against Manchester United.

Asked how he remains motivated after playing nearly 250 professional matches, Bassey said:
“I think, as every footballer will say, after about two, three weeks, you start to miss it.
“The motivation for the new season is always wanting to be better than the last. That alone should push you to be the best version of yourself.”

The former Rangers and Ajax defender also plans to launch a community initiative in the UK this summer, aiming to give back to the area where he grew up.
“I think number one, it’s important for every person to give back. It was a long journey to get to this point.
“Number two, it’s important for us to be role models. I don’t feel like we chose to be, but it comes with the job.
“So many people look up to us. We have to lead by example, do the right things, and act the right way.”
Bassey represented Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, helping the Super Eagles finish as runners-up.
