Super Eagles of Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle says he is “very happy” with his players after the Super Eagles thrashed Benin Republic 4–0 to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs.

Speaking after the game in Uyo, Chelle reserved special praise for Victor Osimhen, who scored a hat-trick in the emphatic victory.

The result lifted Nigeria to 15 points with a +7 goal difference, enough to secure one of four play-off slots following Eritrea’s withdrawal from the qualifiers.

“Now we go to Morocco,  it’s going to be very difficult. This is the start, and I am proud of everyone, even the fans, because they pushed us.

The win confirmed Nigeria’s place among the best second-placed teams in the African qualifiers, keeping their hopes alive for a return to the World Cup after missing the 2022 edition.
