Imama Amapakabo stays loyal to Abia Warriors ahead of continental debut

Abia Warriors head coach Imama Amapakabo has reaffirmed his commitment to the club by rejecting an offer from Kano Pillars.

Amapakabo’s decision comes amid strong interest from the Kano club, who had hoped to secure his services following the resignation of Usman Abdallah.

However, after discussions with the Abia Warriors hierarchy, the former Enugu Rangers boss opted to remain loyal to the project he helped build.

The 2016 NPFL title-winning coach was spotted on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Uyo Township Stadium, overseeing Abia Warriors’ pre-season friendly against KMK FC, a match his side won 1-0.

The Warriors are currently camped in Uyo as they intensify preparations for their continental debut.

His continued presence offers much-needed stability for a club entering uncharted territory. After guiding Abia Warriors to an unprecedented third-place finish in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season, Amapakabo earned the side a historic ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup.

The team finished the league with 18 wins, 6 draws, and 14 losses collecting 60 points in total. It marked the club’s highest league finish since its formation, and expectations are high ahead of the new campaign.

Sources within the club reveal that Amapakabo’s loyalty was influenced by his long-term vision for the squad, many of whom were signed under his watch.

His leadership has also attracted new talents, including at least two players from Enyimba FC, as the Warriors strengthen ahead of their CAF challenge.

Kano Pillars, meanwhile, are now reportedly turning their attention to Kennedy Boboye, a two-time NPFL champion, after failing to lure Amapakabo.

Pillars remain without a head coach, despite the recent appointment of a new board led by Super Eagles legend Ahmed Musa.
