Iwobi masterclass helps Fulham down Brentford at Craven Cottage

Alex Iwobi turned up big time as Fulham beat Brentford at the Craven Cottage, lifting Marco Silva’s side to seventh in the PL table.

Alex Iwobi delivered a standout performance as Fulham overturned an early setback to claim a 3-1 victory over Brentford in the Premier League at Craven Cottage.

The Nigerian midfielder was at the heart of Fulham’s comeback, scoring the equaliser before setting up Harry Wilson to give the hosts the lead in a pulsating West London derby.

Despite Fulham’s bright start, it was Brentford who opened the scoring. A loose pass from Josh King was punished by Mikkel Damsgaard, who fired a low strike beyond Bernd Leno to put the visitors ahead.

The Bees nearly doubled their advantage when Kevin Schade capitalised on another defensive error, but the German was forced wide and failed to hit the target.

Fulham responded with persistence and got their breakthrough when Sasa Lukic’s effort ricocheted inside the box, falling kindly to Iwobi. The Nigeria international kept his composure, slotting the ball through Nathan Collins’ legs for the equaliser.

Moments later, Iwobi produced the game’s defining moment. Picking up the ball in midfield, he split the Brentford defence with a perfectly weighted pass for Wilson, who swept home a superb left-footed finish to make it 2-1.

The Cottagers continued to press after the restart and were rewarded when Ryan Sessegnon’s driven cross was diverted into his own net by Ethan Pinnock.

Rodrigo Muniz thought he had added a fourth with a thunderous strike, only for VAR to disallow the goal for a foul in the build-up.

Fulham managed the game from there, limiting Brentford to half-chances and holding firm to secure their second straight league win.

It was only the second time in Iwobi’s Premier League career that he both scored and assisted in the same game, the last coming against Liverpool in 2023.

Beyond the statistics, his vision and decision-making provided the spark that turned the match in Fulham’s favour.
