Super Eagles defender Jamilu Collins and his Cardiff City teammates have been relegated from the English Championship after their 1-1 draw against West Brom on Saturday.
This result sealed Cardiff’s fate, confirming their drop to League One for the first time in 22 years.
The game, played at Cardiff City Stadium, ended in a draw, leaving Cardiff at the bottom of the Championship table. With only one match remaining, Cardiff’s points tally of 44 is insufficient to escape relegation, making it mathematically impossible for them to avoid the drop.
Cardiff City has endured a difficult season, marked by inconsistent results and managerial changes. Turkish coach Omer Riza was dismissed earlier this month after a string of poor performances, and former player Aaron Ramsey was appointed interim manager to finish the campaign.
Jamilu Collins’ Challenging Season
For Jamilu Collins, this season has been particularly tough. The Nigerian left-back, who joined Cardiff from SC Paderborn in 2022, has struggled with injuries and made only three appearances this term.

His lack of playing time has been compounded by the team’s disappointing performances, and Collins has not featured in a matchday squad since December 2024.

Collins was not part of the lineup for the crucial match against West Brom, and with Cardiff now relegated, it is uncertain whether the 29-year-old will remain at the club.
Given his minimal involvement this season and Cardiff’s demotion to League One, Collins’ future at the club looks increasingly uncertain.

Collins’ relegation adds to the list of Super Eagles players who have faced tough times this season. While some Nigerian internationals are competing for titles, others, like Joe Aribo, Paul Onuachu, and Wilfred Ndidi, have seen their Premier League clubs drop down to the Championship.
Both Southampton and Leicester City were relegated, marking a challenging period for Nigerian players in European football.
