Kelechi Iheanacho nears move to Mexican side after Sevilla struggles

Kelechi Iheanacho Nears Move to Pumas UNAM After Sevilla Struggles

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho is set to leave Spanish club Sevilla for Pumas UNAM in Mexico, as he seeks to revive his career.

Iheanacho, 28, endured a frustrating end to his time at Leicester City, where he was frozen out of the squad even during their Championship campaign.

Following the expiry of his contract, the Nigerian international moved to Sevilla last summer but things didn’t improve.

After a brief and ineffective loan spell at Middlesbrough, where he scored just once in 15 appearances, the striker returned to Sevilla this pre-season.

However, his future quickly became uncertain, especially after Sevilla’s former sporting director Victor Orta described his signing as a “mistake.”

Now, with new Sevilla manager Matías Almeyda opting not to include Iheanacho in his plans, the club is reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Pumas UNAM, one of

Mexico’s most historic clubs. According to The Express, the move could be finalised in the coming days.

Pumas UNAM, three-time CONCACAF Champions League winners, finished 10th in Liga MX last season and have not won a trophy in 14 years.

They currently sit bottom of the league after losing their opening match of the new campaign.
