Kevin De Bruyne to leave Manchester City after this season

Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne will leave the club at the end of the season. He announced his decision in an emotional statement on Friday. This ends his decade-long tenure at the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgian midfielder played 413 matches for Manchester City. He scored 106 goals and provided 174 assists across all competitions. Subsequently, he became the first City midfielder since Colin Bell to reach 100 goals.

Over his years with Man City, he secured 19 major trophies. These include six Premier League titles, five League Cups, three Community Shields, two FA Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one FIFA Club World Cup, and one UEFA Super Cup.

Furthermore, he matched a feat recorded by Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Nemanja Vidic. He earned the Premier League Player of the Season award twice, in 2019/20 and 2021/22. Additionally, he won the Playmaker Award for most assists in 2017/18, 2019/20, and 2022/23.

”Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here – and you deserve to hear it from me first.”

In a message to Manchester City via the social media, De Bryunne said:Β “Dear Manchester, seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading. So I’ll get straight to it and let you know that this will be my final month as a Manchester City player.”

“Football led me to all of you and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people… gave me EVERYTHING. I had no choice but to give EVERYTHING back! And guess what we won EVERYTHING.”

“Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye. Suri, Rome, Mason, MichΓ¨le, and I are beyond grateful for what this place has meant to our family. ‘Manchester’ will forever be on our kids’ passports – and more importantly, in each of our hearts. This will always be our HOME.”

“We cannot thank the city, club, staff, teammates, friends, and family enough for this 10-year ride. Every story comes to an end, but this has definitely been the best chapter.”
