Newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club Kun Khalifat FC have issued a public appeal for financial support to help them meet the costs of competing in the 2025/26 season.
Club CEO Michael Chukwudi Amaefule said the Owerri-based side may struggle to honour fixtures if urgent assistance is not provided.
Amaefule warned that the financial burden of playing in the NPFL was overwhelming, estimating that the cost of sustaining the club for a season is close to ₦1bn.
In a statement released by club, Amaefule stressed that Kun Khalifat’s commitment to football and their supporters remained strong.
“If, for any reason, we are unable to honour a match, it is not due to lack of desire or commitment to the game,” he said. “Rather, it is because of circumstances beyond our control.”

The CEO highlighted the club’s rapid rise from the Nationwide League to the NPFL, achieved “single-handedly through our team’s collective efforts”, but admitted that top-flight football presented a new financial challenge.

Amaefule made a direct appeal to the Imo State Government, corporate sponsors, and well-wishers to provide urgent backing, saying the club could not bear the burden alone.
“We are not asking for help out of fear or lack of determination,” he said. “We are appealing so that Imolites can continue to enjoy watching us play in the NPFL as we aspire to greater heights.”
The club believe that with external support and sponsorship, they can maintain their league status and continue to represent Imo State with pride.
Amaefule concluded his appeal by expressing hope that “together, we can overcome these challenges” and ensure the club’s survival in the league.
