Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina has provided a positive update on his injury status, expressing hope that he will be fit to return to action before the end of the Premier League season.

Aina sustained a calf injury in Forest’s match against Manchester United, which has kept him out of action for several games and will consequently miss out on Nottingham Forest’s big top-four decider match with Manchester City this weekend.

The 28-year-old has been a key player for Forest this season, starting 30 league games and scoring two goals and providing one assist. However, in his absence, Forest have struggled, losing two of their last three games.

Despite this, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side remains in contention for a top-four finish, which would secure a return to the UEFA Champions League places for the first time since the 1979/1980 season.

Aina’s potential return could be a significant boost to Forest’s top-four hopes. With five league games left to play this season, Aina is hoping to make a quick recovery and help his side over the line. “Hopefully, I’ll be fit soon,” Aina said in an interview with Gary Lineker on The Rest is Football Podcast.

“I’m just taking it day by day to be fair. It’s come along really well. I tore my calf, but it’s not too bad. It’s a grade two tear. Hopefully, God willing, I’ll be back before the end of the season.”

Forest currently sit fourth in the Premier League table with 60 points from 33 games, just ahead of Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Aston Villa.

The competition for a top-four spot is intense, but Aina’s return could give Forest a much-needed boost. “It’s hard watching them play and I can’t add anything to the team,” Aina said. “In my case, I just miss training days, but these things happen and you just have to support and be positive.”
