Manchester United open talks to sign Wilfred Ndidi for £9m – Reports

Manchester United have opened talks with Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi over a potential £9m summer transfer from Leicester City.

Manchester United have reportedly opened negotiations with Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, with a view to signing him from Leicester City this summer.

The 28-year-old Nigerian international could be available for a bargain fee of £9 million, thanks to a relegation release clause in his contract, following Leicester’s drop to the Championship.

According to CaughtOffside United are now discussing personal terms with Ndidi’s representatives, as manager Ruben Amorim looks to bolster his midfield options ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Ndidi has spent eight seasons at Leicester and is considered a cult hero at the King Power Stadium, having won the FA Cup, Community Shield, and most recently the EFL Championship title with the Foxes. However, the club’s relegation to the second tier has opened the door for his exit.

Why United Want Ndidi

Manchester United are believed to be in the market for an experienced holding midfielder, and Ndidi is seen as an ideal fit.

Although the Red Devils recently signed Manuel Ugarte, the Uruguayan is still adapting to English football, and Amorim is keen to add more depth and defensive stability to his squad.

Ndidi’s ability to break up opposition play and shield the back four has made him one of the Premier League’s most consistent defensive midfielders over the years.

Signing him for just £9 million would represent exceptional value for a player with such experience and pedigree.

From Ndidi’s perspective, a move to Old Trafford would represent a step back into top-flight football and the chance to challenge for major honours.

Reports indicate the Nigerian is open to the switch and would welcome the opportunity to join a club of Manchester United’s stature.

With the likes of Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha already secured, United continue to strengthen their squad for a return to title contention next season.

If an agreement on personal terms is reached, the club is expected to submit an official bid to Leicester in the coming days.
