Mikel Obi reveals Victor Osimhen’s preferred transfer destination

Victor Osimhen is in talks with Al-Hilal over a €70m move from Napoli, as the Saudi club eyes the striker before the Club World Cup.

Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has just added fuel to the fire—revealing that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen could be on the move to the Premier League, with Chelsea and Arsenal among the top contenders.

Speaking on BeIN Sports, Mikel made it clear that Osimhen has a strong desire to play in England—and hinted Chelsea may already have a head start in the race for his signature.

“He wants to play for Chelsea,” Mikel said confidently. “I hope it happens. I know where we stopped with the contract talks last summer—it’s not far off. The hard work’s already been done.”

Osimhen, who is currently lighting up the Turkish Super Lig with Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, has bagged 31 goals in all competitions this season, making him one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards.

While Mikel is rooting for a Chelsea reunion, he also acknowledged that other Premier League heavyweights could swoop in—namely Arsenal and Manchester United.

“If Chelsea don’t act, Arsenal or United could jump in,” he warned. “But if United miss out on Europe, that changes things. I don’t see Osimhen going somewhere without Champions League football.”

The 2023 CAF Player of the Year is focused on helping Galatasaray clinch the league title before deciding his future, but speculation is already mounting.

His combination of pace, power, and finishing has drawn comparisons to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba—something Mikel believes the current Blues squad is missing.

“When you look at Chelsea this season, we’ve created chances but lacked someone to finish them. Osimhen is that guy. He scores goals, and that wins you games—and trophies,” Mikel said.

With both Chelsea and Arsenal in need of a clinical striker to lead their lines next season, the battle for Osimhen is shaping up to be one of the biggest stories of the summer transfer window.
