Morocco lodge complaint as CAF condemns conduct in AFCON final

Morocco are preparing to submit a formal complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following a series of incidents during the Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal in Rabat.

The Moroccan Football Federation is understood to be particularly concerned about an episode late in the match when Senegal players were instructed by head coach Pape Thiaw to leave the pitch after a penalty was awarded.

Morocco believe the incident ran counter to the principles of sportsmanship and fair play, and argue it detracted from the image of African football on its biggest stage.

The Atlas Lions are expected to urge CAF to apply its rules and regulations strictly and to take what they describe as appropriate decisions, insisting such scenes should not be repeated at major continental competitions.

In a statement released after the match, CAF said it “strongly condemns the unacceptable behaviour of some players and officials” during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 final.

The governing body added that it condemns any inappropriate conduct during matches, particularly actions directed at the refereeing team or match organisers.

CAF confirmed it is reviewing all available footage from the final and said the matter would be referred to the appropriate disciplinary bodies, with action to be taken against any individuals found guilty.

The final, won 1-0 by Senegal after extra time, has since been overshadowed by debate over conduct, officiating and adherence to regulations.
