Morocco responds cautiously to CAF appeals ruling amid AFCON dispute

Morocco’s football authorities say they will carefully consider their next steps after a ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Committee declared them 2025 Africa Cup of Nations champions.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed it had formally acknowledged the decision, while stressing that its appeal was rooted in regulatory concerns rather than sporting grievances.

“The Federation reiterates that its approach has always been grounded in respect for the rules, the clarity of the competitive framework, and the stability of African competitions,” the statement said.

The FRMF added that its challenge was not intended to question the performance or merit of any team involved in the tournament, but to ensure that competition rules were properly applied and enforced.

Despite acknowledging the verdict, Morocco stopped short of outlining any immediate course of action.

Officials said a more detailed position would be communicated following a meeting of the federation’s governing bodies scheduled for Wednesday.

The case has drawn widespread attention across African football, coming at a time when governance and consistency in decision-making within CAF have come under increasing scrutiny.

The federation also used its statement to commend all teams participating in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, describing the tournament as an important moment for African football both on and off the pitch.
