Former Atalanta coach Bortolo Mutti has backed Ademola Lookman to be a transformative signing for Napoli, describing the Nigerian forward as a “fundamental piece” capable of leading the club to another Serie A title.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss, Mutti praised the Super Eagles attacker’s creativity and impact since arriving in Italy, saying:
“Lookman is an immense footballer who is fun and makes you win matches. He always manages to invent the play; he is a fundamental piece for Atalanta.”
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a stellar run in Serie A since joining Atalanta, scoring 52 goals and providing 25 assists in 118 appearances across all competitions.

His form has placed him firmly on Napoli’s radar, with transfer talks intensifying ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Mutti believes Napoli could successfully defend their title if they secure Lookman and another reported target, Lorenzo Lucca.
“If Napoli signs Lookman and Lorenzo Lucca too, then they would win the championship again,” Mutti added.
Napoli, under Antonio Conte, surprised many by clinching the Scudetto last season despite lacking some of their past title-winning stars.
Conte leaned on the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay, and the tactical blend proved successful.

Lookman has just one year left on his current Atalanta contract. However, the club is demanding €60 million for the winger’s release.
Napoli, while interested, is reluctant to go beyond that valuation, setting the stage for a potential negotiation standoff.
With his proven Serie A pedigree and Nigeria’s growing influence in top European leagues, Lookman remains one of the most sought-after players in the summer transfer window.
