Newcastle United are in serious pursuit of securing Bayer Leverkusen and Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface ahead of the 2025/26 season, as the Magpies look to bolster their attacking options for a potential UEFA Champions League campaign.
According to Africa Foot, the Carabao Cup holders have already initiated discussions with both Boniface’s camp and Bundesliga champions Leverkusen, with negotiations said to have been ongoing for weeks.
The 24-year-old Nigerian has been in sensational form since joining Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise last summer, playing a pivotal role in their historic unbeaten Bundesliga triumph.

Bayer Leverkusen striker netted 21 goals and provided nine assists in 34 games in his debut season. He also won the German Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal in a campaign that saw Die Werkself go unbeaten.
His impressive performances have attracted interest from multiple top European clubs, but Newcastle appear determined to win the race for his signature.
Currently sitting third in the Premier League, Eddie Howe’s side views Boniface as a key addition to strengthen their attack as they push for a return to Europe’s elite competition.
However, Leverkusen could demand a substantial fee for their star forward, especially with other clubs closely monitoring his situation.
If the transfer goes through, Boniface would join the growing list of Nigerian stars in the Premier League, including Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi and Fulham’s Calvin Bassey.

With the summer window approaching, Newcastle’s pursuit of the prolific striker could spark a bidding war, testing Leverkusen’s resolve to retain one of their most valuable assets.
Boniface’s potential transfer to the Saudi Pro League fell through during the winter transfer window, suggesting that if the financial terms are right, a move to the Premier League could still be on the table.
