NFF President Ibrahim Gusau elected WAFU Zone B 1st vice president

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has been unanimously elected as the 1st Vice President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B. The election took place on Friday in Niamey, Niger Republic, during the 17th Ordinary Assembly of WAFU Zone B.

Gusau will serve alongside Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin-Simeon Okraku, who was elected WAFU Zone B President, and Burkina Faso Football Federation President Oumarou Sawadogo, who takes on the role of 2nd Vice President.

WAFU Zone B comprises seven member nations: Nigeria, Togo, Benin Republic, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Côte d’Ivoire. As the 1st Vice President, Gusau will play a key role in promoting football development in the region and fostering cooperation among member countries.

Since becoming NFF President in September 2022, Gusau has built an impressive resume in African football governance, serving on the Organizing Committee for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and contributing as a top security officer for both FIFA and CAF.

The appointment of Gusau as WAFU Zone B 1st Vice President continues Nigeria’s legacy of strong leadership within WAFU, following in the footsteps of pioneers like Joseph Kwamina Tandoh and influential figures such as Jonathan Boytie Ogufere, Abdulmumini Aminu, and Amos Adamu.

As the 1st Vice President of WAFU Zone B, Gusau is expected to work closely with President Okraku and other member countries to promote football development and cooperation in the region.

The new officer of WAFU has been instrumental to so many football institutional reforms in Nigeria since 2022, feats that has won him continental recognition.
