Nigeria have named a 15-athlete squad for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, with the country set to compete across 11 events from 13–21 September 2025.
World record holder Oluwatobi Amusan headlines the team in the women’s 100m hurdles, alongside long jump star Ese Brume, who will lead Nigeria’s medal hopes on the field.
Rosemary Chukwuma will contest the women’s 100m, while Chioma Onyekwere and Obiageri Amaechi are listed in the discus. Oyesade Olatoye represents Nigeria in the hammer throw.
On the men’s side, Udodi Onwuzurike, currently Nigeria’s highest-ranked 200m sprinter with a season’s best of 20.17s, is included.

Samuel Ogazi and Chidi Okezie will run the 400m, with Ezekiel Nathaniel named in the 400m hurdles after breaking the national record last month in Poland with a blistering 47.31 seconds.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi competes in the men’s shot put, while Charles Godfred will represent Nigeria in the long jump.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) said the final squad was selected on merit, based on World Athletics qualification standards.

US-based sprinter Favour Ofili, however, was not included in the travelling party amid speculation over a potential switch of allegiance to Turkey.
