Nigeria’s world cup hopes: Super Eagles star refuses to give up

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has issued a warning to Rwanda and South Africa, stating that Nigeria will not give up on their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite the team’s underwhelming start to the campaign, Nwabali believes there is still plenty to play for.

“We still have a good chance to qualify despite our current position. We’re focused on the next game, and we’ll keep pushing to turn things around,” Nwabali said. He emphasized that being Nigeria doesn’t automatically mean they’ll beat everyone, but the team is determined to make a late charge for a place at the global tournament.

The Super Eagles have a rich history in the World Cup, having qualified for six of the last eight tournaments and reaching the round of 16 in 1994, 1998, and 2014. With four fixtures remaining and 12 points still available, Nigeria is desperate to avoid back-to-back absences from the world stage.

Nigeria’s National Sports Commission Chairman, Shehu Dikko, believes a pending FIFA disciplinary verdict could revive the Super Eagles’ World Cup hopes.

FIFA is investigating claims that South Africa fielded an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, in a qualifier against Lesotho. If South Africa is docked crucial points, Nigeria’s chances of qualifying could significantly improve.
