Nneka Ede: Nigerian entrepreneur buys Czech club for ₦1.4 billion deal

Nneka Ede acquires Czech football club SK Dynamo České Budějovice in a ₦1.4 billion deal, becoming the new owner

Nigerian entrepreneur Dorothy Nneka Ede has acquired Czech football club SK Dynamo České Budějovice, becoming the new majority owner after signing a deal with outgoing shareholder Vladimír Koubek on Thursday.

The transaction, reportedly worth 20 million Czech Krona (approximately ₦1.4 billion), marks Ede’s second foray into European football ownership.

She first made headlines in 2020 by purchasing Portuguese side Lusitano Ginásio Clube, making her the first African woman to own a European football club.

The ownership change comes after Dynamo’s catastrophic 2024/2025 campaign, where the club recorded zero wins in 35 league games, earning only six points from six draws — the worst season in Czech top-flight history.

The club was relegated to the Czech Liga 2.

With the acquisition complete, the club will undergo major management changes. Zdeněk Koukal Jr, current head coach of third-tier club Záp, is reportedly set to take over the first team.

Meanwhile, Markéta Haindlová, chairwoman of the Czech Football Players Association, is expected to play a key role in the club’s new structure.

Before the transition, outgoing owner Koubek ensured that all outstanding wages to players and staff were paid. This was supported by a 10 million crown “golden parachute” from the league, a standard allocation for relegated teams.

The club already has ties to Nigerian football, having been home to several Nigerian players over the years, including Ubong Ekpai, Elvis Isaac, Fortune Bassey, Quadri Adediran, and Colin Andrew.
