Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles defender Ola Aina is set for an extended period out of action after suffering a calf injury during his side’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

The 27-year-old went down unchallenged in the 35th minute, prompting immediate attention from Forest’s medical staff, though he initially seemed fine, Aina was eventually helped off the pitch and replaced by Alex Moreno.

Following the match, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed that the former Chelsea and Torino full-back would undergo scans to determine the severity of the injury.

Subsequent medical examinations have confirmed a calf issue, but the timeline for his return remains uncertain.

Nuno Reacts to Aina’s Absence

Speaking ahead of Forest’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Aston Villa at Villa Park, Nuno expressed his disappointment over Aina’s injury.

“It is always difficult when it’s a calf injury—we have to give him time. There is no exact recovery schedule; it depends on the player’s ability to heal,” the Portuguese tactician told BBC Sports.

“He will definitely miss the Villa match and is doubtful for Everton. Beyond that, we will keep assessing him. I am hopeful he will return before the end of the season,” Nuno added.

Aina’s absence is a significant blow for Forest, as the defender has been an integral part of the squad, offering versatility and defensive solidity.

“He has had the scan, and he is going to be out for a while. We will miss his quality, his talent, and the chemistry he has with his teammates,” Nuno concluded.
