Enyimba FC forward Awazie Ekene remains optimistic about the club’s chances of securing a place in next season’s continental competitions, following their 2-0 win over Kwara United in Matchday 36 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The victory, secured at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, keeps the nine-time Nigerian champions firmly in the hunt for a top-three finish, with just two matches left to play.
Speaking after the match, Awazie praised the team’s performance and underlined the importance of maintaining focus as the season nears its climax.
“It was a well-deserved victory for us, based on how we played,” he said. “Kwara United made it a tough match, but I’m proud of how we stood our ground and earned all three points.”

Enyimba are currently locked in a tight battle with Abia Warriors and Ikorodu City for the final continental qualification spot, and Awazie believes every point now matters.

“We knew going into this game that only a win would keep us in contention. With two matches remaining, we’re still confident we can get maximum points, which would give us a strong advantage heading into the final day,” he added.

Awazie, who has scored six goals and provided three assists this season, has been instrumental in Enyimba’s campaign and is expected to play a key role as they push for a strong finish.
The People’s Elephant will travel to Lafia to face Nasarawa United in their next fixture, a match that could prove pivotal in determining their fate in the NPFL standings.
