Bayelsa United and newly-promoted Warri Wolves are setting the early pace in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after both recorded back-to-back wins on Matchday 2.
Rivers United also picked up their first victory of the season, while Plateau United’s struggles continued with another defeat.
Bayelsa United made it two wins from two with a 2-0 victory over Barau FC in Yenagoa. Wisdom Magbisa’s penalty and Ofem Nneoyi’s late strike secured the Prosperity Boys’ best-ever NPFL start. They are one of three teams yet to concede this season.
Warri Wolves also claimed their second straight win, beating Rangers International 2-0 in Ozoro. The match had been delayed after officials flagged insufficient police and civil defence presence, as well as a lack of cover for the benches.
Once underway, Godwin Oham opened the scoring with a spectacular first-half curler before Prince Ebhohon added a second. Rangers remain winless after two matches.

Bayelsa United and Warri Wolves now occupy first and second place in the table.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers United edged Kwara United 1-0 thanks to Ubong Friday’s 22nd-minute strike from Emmanuel Nnaji’s assist.
The Pride of Rivers, runners-up last season, now have four points after drawing away to champions Remo Stars on the opening day.
Coach Finidi George said before the game that his side “fear no one” as they aim for the title.
At the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United were beaten 2-0 by Katsina United, leaving them the only side without a point. Auwal Abubakar finished smartly from a Falolu Azeez pass to put Katsina ahead, before Uche Collins’ thumping header doubled the lead.

The result piles pressure on Plateau’s coach Shola Adegun, who only joined from NNL outfit Sporting Lagos weeks ago.
In Kano, a packed Sani Abacha Stadium witnessed a 1-1 draw between Kano Pillars and Wikki Tourists. Luis Dadong’s opener for the visitors was cancelled out by Mustapha Umar’s towering header, denying Wikki a famous away win.

Abdul Maikaba’s Wikki remain unbeaten on four points after two matches while Ogenyi Evans Pillars team struggling to find their feet with 1 point from a possible 6.
Ikorodu City are still searching for their first win and first goal of the season after a 0-0 draw with El-Kanemi Warriors in Lagos.

The Oga Boys had also drawn goalless with Kwara United on opening day, while Kabiru Dogo’s El-Kanemi remain unbeaten and are yet to concede.
Record nine time champions Enyimba earned their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes in Aba.
Joseph Abiodun struck in the 5th minute to deliver the People’s Elephant their first goal and win of the campaign. Billionaire businessman Obi Cubana was among the fans watching on in Aba.

In Lafia, Ugochukwu Leonard’s early goal gave Nasarawa United a 1-0 victory over Abia Warriors. It was the Solid Miners’ first win of the season under new coach Mangut Mbwas.
Final fixture in Aba
Matchday 2 will conclude in Aba on monday, where Kun Khalifat host champions Remo Stars.

Khalifat, using the Enyimba International Stadium due to renovations at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, are seeking their first-ever NPFL win after debuting with a draw against Rangers. Remo also opened with a draw, against Rivers United.
