NPFL 25/26: Warri Wolves eye Kennedy Boboye after Napoleon suspension

Kennedy Boboye

Newly Promoted Nigeria Premier Football League( NPFL) side Warri Wolves is set to appoint Kennedy Boboye as head coach following the suspension of Aluma Napoleon.

The Delta State Sports Commission confirmed Napoleon’s suspension on 29 September, citing poor performance since the club returned to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The statement directed Napoleon to hand over responsibilities to Assistant Coach Jonny Austin, who will serve as interim boss.

Napoleon had guided Warri Wolves to the Nigeria National League title last season, earning promotion back to the NPFL after years away from the top flight.

However, the team’s poor start this season, including a 1-2 defeat to Shooting Stars, led to the decision.

Before the season began, the club considered appointing Boboye as head coach with Napoleon as his assistant, but the plan was shelved to let Napoleon lead the team.

Six weeks into the season, the Delta State Sports Commission is revisiting that decision.

The 50-year-old coached Akwa United midway through last season after parting ways with Sunshine Stars, where he resigned over alleged interference.

But his second stint in Uyo ended in relegation, despite managing 7 wins, 3 draws, and 8 losses in 18 matches.

Boboye, one of Nigeria’s most respected domestic coaches, also made history by delivering Plateau United’s first league title in 2017, and later Akwa United’s maiden crown in 2021.

Sources say Napoleon may remain at the club as his assistant if he chooses.
