Two-time NPFL-winning coach Kennedy Boboye is set to join newly promoted Barau FC of Kano a move that could see the club outmaneuver city rivals Kano Pillars in the race for his signature.
Boboye, who won league titles with Plateau United in 2017 and Akwa United in 2021, was reportedly in negotiations with Kano Pillars over their vacant managerial role.
However, sources suggest that Barau FC have moved ahead in the race and are now on the verge of sealing a deal with the experienced tactician.
The 50-year-old returned to Akwa United midway through last season after parting ways with Sunshine Stars, where he resigned over alleged interference.
But his second stint in Uyo ended in relegation, despite managing 7 wins, 3 draws, and 8 losses in 18 matches.
Barau FC, newly promoted from the Nigeria National League, are preparing for their first-ever top-flight campaign and see Boboye’s experience as vital to their NPFL survival hopes.
Following productive talks with the club’s hierarchy over the weekend, an official announcement could come before the end of the week.

The move, if completed, would mark a significant coup for Barau FC, especially with Kano Pillars also strongly interested.

Pillars had reportedly entered discussions with Boboye after failing to secure the services of Imama Amapakabo, but now appear to have been beaten to the punch by their Kano neighbours.
Pillars who recently appointed Super Eagles legend Ahmed Musa as General Manager remain without a head coach heading into the 2025/26 season.

Boboye, one of Nigeria’s most respected domestic coaches, also made history by delivering Plateau United’s first league title in 2017, and later Akwa United’s maiden crown in 2021.
