The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is making headlines for two very different reasons this week disciplinary action off the pitch and a heated title race on it.
El-Kanemi Warriors have been slammed with a ₦3.5 million fine and a stadium ban after chaotic scenes during their match against Ikorodu City.
The Maiduguri club’s fans were reported to have thrown objects onto the field and vandalized the visiting team’s vehicle—serious security violations that prompted immediate punishment from league officials.
The NPFL has ordered the closure of El-Kanemi’s home stadium to fans for the remainder of the season. The club must now respond in writing either accepting the verdict or requesting a hearing with the disciplinary panel.

This is the latest move in the league’s aggressive crackdown on matchday misconduct. Nasarawa United recently faced similar punishment, being forced to relocate to the Pantami Stadium in Gombe following crowd trouble against Plateau United.
While Sanctions Fall, Remo Stars Rise
On the other end of the NPFL spectrum, Remo Stars continue their push for a first-ever league title. With just seven games to go, the Sky Blue Stars sit atop the table with 65 points—seven ahead of closest challengers Rivers United.
Club captain Nduka Junior is urging focus as the finish line approaches, following a crucial 1–0 away win over Shooting Stars last weekend.

“It was an amazing feeling after the game in Ibadan. The win moved us closer to achieving our target, which is the title,” Nduka told 54footballx.

“We are aware of our rivals. Rivers United are closing up the margin. We are not there yet. It’s just a matter of a few more games. We’ll continue to fight until the end.”
Remo Stars next face Niger Tornadoes this weekend, looking to edge closer to an historic NPFL crown while the league continues to hold clubs accountable off the pitch.
