Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have lifted the suspension on goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka, declaring him free to register with any club after being linked to an alleged betting scandal.
In a letter addressed to Adeyinka and signed by Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, the NPFL confirmed that while investigations into betting activities continue, the player has been cleared to resume his career.
“For the benefit of fair hearing and not to put your career in jeopardy, the suspension placed on your registration in the NPFL has been lifted. You are free to register for any club of your choice,” the NPFL’s letter read.
The NPFL board noted that further inquiries are ongoing, and all those mentioned in the probe may still be invited.

Reacting to the development, Adewale Adeyinka expressed his relief and gratitude for the support he has received during what he described as a “challenging time.”

“I am relieved to announce that the League Management Company (LMC) has cleared me, Adewale Adeyinka, of the betting accusations, allowing me to register with any club. Although investigations are still ongoing, I am grateful for the support I received during this challenging time,” he said.

The former Plateau United and Kwara United shot-stopper also extended his appreciation to the Nigeria Association of Footballers (NAF) Player Union, his former clubs, and individuals who stood by him.
“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Nigeria Association of Footballers (NAF) Player Union for their unwavering support. I also appreciate the backing from my former club, Plateau United, as well as Kwara United and Akwa United,” Adeyinka added.
He further thanked colleagues in the goalkeeping fraternity and highlighted the loyalty of those who stood by him, singling out Dosu John.

Despite acknowledging that the process had setbacks to his career, Adeyinka stressed that the experience had taught him valuable lessons.
With his suspension lifted, Adewale Adeyinka is now eligible to sign for a new club ahead of the ongoing NPFL season. However, the league body confirmed that its wider investigation into betting-related activities will continue.
