Remo Stars top NPFL after beating Shooting Stars; Rivers United, Plateau United, and others battle in a thrilling Matchday 33

Matchday 34 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) brought pivotal victories for both Remo Stars and Rivers United, intensifying the title race as the season nears its conclusion.

Remo Stars lead the table with 65 points from 34 games, they are firmly in the driver’s seat, but Rivers United’s late winner ensures the battle for the title is far from over.

Elsewhere, teams across the league fought for crucial points as they jostle for position in the final stretch of the season.

At the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Remo Stars delivered a vital 1-0 victory over Shooting Stars, with Alex Oyowah scoring the decisive goal in the 30th minute.

Oyowah connected with a precise cross from Ismail Sodiq, sending the ball into the top corner and securing all three points for Remo Stars.

This win strengthen their grip at the top of the NPFL standings, ahead of Rivers United, who are seven point behind.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers United also maintained their title hopes with a 1-0 victory over Sunshine Stars. Suleiman Abba’s 84th-minute strike was the difference, as Rivers United kept the pressure on Remo Stars in the race for the league crown.

Meanwhile, Ikorodu City climbed into third place after being held to a 1-1 draw by El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri. Emmanuel Solomon gave Ikorodu City the lead in the 41st minute, but Sama’ila Bello quickly equalized for the home side just four minutes later.

At the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, Niger Tornadoes and Bayelsa United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Sunday Williams gave Tornadoes a first-half lead, but Rabiu Abdullahi netted the equalizer in the 79th minute, helping Bayelsa United extend their unbeaten streak to nine games.

In Owerri, Heartland played out a frustrating goalless draw with Kwara United at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, while in Jos, Plateau United secured a 1-0 victory over Akwa United, thanks to a winning strike from Vincent Temitope.

In Benin City, Bendel Insurance fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Nasarawa United. Abubakar Garba gave Nasarawa the lead in the 42nd minute, but Michael Enaruna leveled the score for Bendel Insurance with a 74th-minute equalizer.
