NSC inaugurates election committees ahead of federation elections

The Nigeria Sports Commission inaugurates Election Petitions and Appeals Committees to ensure transparency ahead of federation elections.

The Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) has formally inaugurated two high-powered committees the Election Petitions Committee and the Election Appeals Committee  to oversee and adjudicate matters arising from sports federation elections.

The initiative, aimed at deepening transparency, fairness, and accountability in Nigerian sports governance, aligns with global best practices and marks a significant step forward for election integrity across federations.

Election Petitions Committee:

Barrister Denen Ikyaa (Chairman): A respected international legal expert on sports ethics, currently serving on the FIA Ethics Committee and formerly of the NFF Appeals Committee.

Barrister Chike Onyeacho (Member): A seasoned legal mind with a focus on electoral jurisprudence.

Mr. Paul Esheyigba (Member): An experienced administrator known for legal compliance and governance.

Mr. Niyi Alabi Aliebiosu (Member): Sports Editor at Nigerian Tribune, adding journalistic oversight and governance insight.

Miss Linda Akalugwa (Member/Secretary): A legal professional responsible for administrative precision and due process.

Election Appeals Committee:

A.U. Mustapha, SAN (Chairman): A veteran of sports law and former CAF Appeals Committee chair with a reputation for impartiality.

Barrister Chris Umar, SAN (Member): Former Kaduna Solicitor-General with legal and public service expertise.

Barrister Owoicho Adejo-Ogiri (Member): A judge on the FIA International Tribunal and Court of Appeal, with deep international legal credentials.

Mrs. Prisca Ngozi Udoka, SAN (Member): A distinguished legal strategist and Harvard-trained mediator with a strong litigation background.

Mr. Lateef Olatunji Surakatu (Secretary): A top finance and governance expert, serving as Head of Business Advisory at Andersen Nigeria.

In a statement, the NSC said the calibre of individuals selected reflects a commitment to restoring trust and credibility in Nigeria’s sports institutions, with this, the Commission aims to deliver fair, transparent, and professionally managed electoral processes across all sports federations.
