Nwaiwu earns first Super Eagles call-up after Bassey’s injury

Trabzonspor center back Chibuike Nwaiwu has been called up to the Super Eagles squad as a replacement for injured defender Calvin Bassey ahead of upcoming international friendlies.

Bassey was ruled out after suffering a back injury, leaving head coach Eric Chelle short of options in central defence.

The late change sees Nwaiwu, who plays for Trabzonspor, receive his first senior call-up to the national team.

The 24-year-old joined the Turkish side from Austrian club Wolfsberger and has made 10 appearances this season, contributing two goals and one assist.
