Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has advised compatriot Victor Osimhen to consider a lucrative switch to Saudi Arabian giants Al-Hilal, as transfer speculation continues to swirl around the Napoli forward.
Osimhen, 26, reportedly rejected a €40 million offer from Al-Hilal ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, opting instead to keep his options open for a possible return to European football after a productive loan stint with Galatasaray.
Speaking to News Central TV, Ighalo, who previously played for Al-Hilal and maintains a strong reputation in the Saudi Pro League, said he would support Osimhen’s decision regardless of the direction it takes, but wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Middle East if consulted.
“He knows what he wants. He is a grown-up guy now and has worked hard to be where he is now,” Ighalo said.

“I think he has done well. Whatever decision he makes now, it is a win for him. If he asks me, of course, I will say go. Whatever decision, it is a win for him.”

The mentor-mentee relationship between the two strikers dates back to 2020, when a young Osimhen traveled to Belgium to watch Ighalo’s European debut for Manchester United against Club Brugge.
Despite strong interest from top European clubs, Osimhen’s reported wage demands have been a sticking point, with some fans urging the Nigerian to lower his expectations to secure a move.
However, Ighalo defended his fellow striker, urging greater respect and understanding for African players.
“In the world, if you want to mention two strikers and you don’t call his name, it is impossible,” Ighalo stated. “He is doing so well. In Africa, we underrate our African players and potential.”

He also praised Osimhen’s mental strength and ability to rise above criticism, noting that the striker has overcome significant challenges in his personal and professional life.

“If you want to search the world now for a proper goal scorer, tell me two or three. It is not easy. Agents are calling every day, there’s pressure from the media — I think Victor is mentally strong.”
Ighalo further added that a move to Saudi Arabia could still happen later if not now, stressing that interest in Osimhen will remain high.
“If he goes now or after two years, it is still the same. It doesn’t matter because last year they came and he didn’t go. They came back this year, and they will still come again.”
