Ogunmodede still in charge – Remo Stars quash resignation claims

Remo Stars have dismissed widespread reports claiming that head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has resigned from his position, confirming that the NPFL title-winning coach remains in charge.

Speculation about Ogunmodede’s future grew earlier in the week following the club’s 7–1 defeat to South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League.

However, in an official statement released on Wednesday, 5 November, Remo Stars clarified that Ogunmodede “remains an integral part of our technical crew” and continues to serve as head coach of Remo Stars FC.

The club explained that the 45-year-old tactician is currently attending a CAF B Coaching Course in Abuja as part of his professional development and also assisting the Super Eagles technical crew ahead of their World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations preparations.

“He remains a valued and vital member of the Remo Stars family, and we look forward to his successful completion of these national and personal engagements,” the statement read.

Ogunmodede, who joined Remo Stars in 2015, has overseen a remarkable transformation at the club. Under his leadership, the Sky Blue Stars have played 109 matches, recording 53 wins, 20 draws, and 36 defeats, while scoring 132 goals.

He guided Remo Stars to their first-ever NPFL title in the 2024/25 season, amassing 71 points from 38 matches the highest in the club’s history and the first league crown for a Southwest club in 25 years.

Beyond the numbers, Ogunmodede’s influence is felt in the club’s style and structure. His football philosophy, known as “Ijaball”, has defined Remo’s tactical identity, a mix of high pressing and fluid attacking play inspired by José Mourinho, Jürgen Klopp, and Pep Guardiola.

He also played a key role in building Beyond Limits Football Academy, the youth system that now serves as the club’s major talent pipeline.

After a brief stint as assistant coach at Portuguese side CD Feirense between 2021 and 2022, Ogunmodede returned to lead Remo Stars to consecutive top-two finishes before delivering their maiden NPFL crown.
