Harambee Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been suspended for 90 days by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) following allegations of match-fixing.
The decision comes after an undated online video surfaced, allegedly showing Matasi discussing the possibility of influencing the outcome of a domestic league match.
Although the authenticity of the footage remains unverified, FKF swiftly acted by invoking Section VII (2) of its Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations (2016).

Kakamega Homeboyz Defends Matasi
Kakamega Homeboyz owner Cleophas Shimanyula defended the 37-year-old goalkeeper, stating that Matasi denied any involvement in match-fixing.
“I have spoken to him. He was also shocked at what he was seeing in the video and told me he doesn’t know anything about match-fixing,” Shimanyula told BBC Sport Africa.

Despite Matasi’s suspension, Homeboyz insists he has done nothing wrong.
“When we watched this video, we found that Matasi has not wronged the club, a video can be misinterpreted, and we cannot trust everything.”Shimanyula added.
Suspension and Investigation
Matasi, who has over 30 international caps for Kenya and last played for the national team in October 2024 during an AFCON qualifier, is now barred from participating in all FKF-sanctioned activities.

FKF confirmed that FIFA, CAF, and other relevant authorities will assist in the investigation.
“We reaffirm our zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation and are committed to safeguarding the credibility of our competitions,” the FKF stated.
“This investigation will adhere to FKF’s anti-match manipulation regulations and FIFA guidelines, ensuring a fair, transparent, and thorough process.”
Matasi’s Recent Struggles
The veteran goalkeeper has faced scrutiny in recent years due to high-profile errors.
Notable mistakes include Kenya’s 4-1 loss to Cameroon in the 2025 AFCON Group ‘J’ qualifiers and a costly performance in Kenya Police FC’s defeat to Zamalek during the CAF Confederation Cup.
