One week after honouring the Super Falcons for their WAFCON 2024 triumph, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended similar recognition to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their historic fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title.
At a reception held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday evening, President Tinubu announced a comprehensive reward through his Vice President Kashim Shettina to celebrate the team’s continued continental dominance. National Honours and Presidential Package
Each player was awarded:
$100,000 cash prize
A flat in Abuja
The national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON)
Members of the technical crew and support staff also received $50,000 each in appreciation of their role in maintaining the team’s unbeaten run in the competition.

The announcement follows D’Tigress’ 78–64 win over Mali in the final played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan.

That victory sealed their seventh continental title overall and extended their winning streak in the tournament to 29 matches, dating back to 2015.

The honour mirrors the reward given to the Super Falcons last week after their record 10th WAFCON title.

Like D’Tigress, the Falcons were also decorated with the OON, Abuja flats, and $100,000 each underlining the government’s current drive to incentivise sporting excellence.

D’Tigress’ triumph adds to their titl.es in 2003, 2005, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and now 2025, cementing their place as the most successful women’s basketball team on the continent.
