PSG agree deal to sign Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade is on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain(PSG) in one of the most high-profile transfers of the women’s football window.

According to multiple reports in the France, an agreement has been reached for the 24-year-old, who left Atlético Madrid in June as a free agent, with only final paperwork to be completed.

Ajibade, fresh from captaining Nigeria to a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco, was named Player of the Tournament after contributing a goal, two assists, and three Player of the Match awards.

She won the MVP or the WAFCON 2024 and also made the Team of the Tournament.

Her move will see her link up with compatriot Jennifer Echegini in the PSG squad. The French club, who have won the women’s league just once in 2021, are aiming to dethrone 18-time champions Olympique Lyonnais.

Since making her professional debut at FC Robo in Lagos, Ajibade has enjoyed a rapid rise. She joined Atlético in 2021, scoring 41 goals in 137 appearances and winning the Copa de la Reina, Supercopa Femenina, and Trofeo Ramón de Carranza.

Her arrival is expected to boost the firepower of coach Paulo César’s side, who are targeting both domestic and European success in the coming season.
