Rangers International and Nasarawa United have been sanctioned for multiple breaches of league regulations following separate incidents in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Rangers were charged after their home fixture against Barau FC on Sunday, 5 April 2026 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

League authorities found that the Enugu club failed to provide adequate and effective security, resulting in unauthorised persons gaining access to restricted areas. Club officials were also cited for conduct capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

Supporters were found to have harassed match officials, with the NPFL ruling that Rangers failed to ensure proper fan conduct. The incidents were described as gross misconduct that undermined the integrity of the league.

Rangers were fined a total of ₦4 million, including penalties for inadequate security, pitch encroachment, unsporting behaviour by officials, and supporters’ misconduct. The club will also play their remaining two home matches behind closed doors and have 48 hours to appeal.

Meanwhile, Nasarawa United were also charged following similar breaches during one of their home fixtures in Lafia.

The NPFL found that the club failed to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorised individuals into restricted areas. Supporters were reported to have thrown dangerous objects at match officials while attempting to access those areas.

Club officials were also cited for unsporting behaviour capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

In addition, Nasarawa United were found to have failed in controlling their supporters, leading to the harassment of match officials. The league further ruled that match officials were held hostage for approximately 20 minutes during the incident.

As a result, the Lafia-based club has been fined at least ₦2 million, including ₦1 million for unsporting conduct and another ₦1 million for supporters’ misconduct.

Nasarawa United will also play their final two home matches of the season behind closed doors. Like Rangers, the club has been given 48 hours from the date of the notice of sanctions to appeal the decision.
