Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare continued his sensational scoring run, bagging his 19th league goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough to prevent KRC Genk from falling to a 2-1 home defeat against Union Saint-Gilloise in Saturday’s Belgian Pro League playoff clash.
The in-form Nigerian forward was once again Genk’s main man, showing his typical poacher’s instinct in stoppage time to capitalize on a defensive blunder and slot home a clinical finish.
Though the goal came late, it underlined Arokodare’s role as one of the most dangerous and reliable strikers in the league.
Despite his efforts, Genk found themselves chasing the game after a double from Union’s Promise David, who stole the spotlight with a brace that stunned the home crowd.

David broke the deadlock with a composed penalty just before halftime, then doubled the lead early in the second half after latching onto a slick pass from Ousseynou Niang.
While Genk struggled to break through Union’s compact defense, Arokodare remained a threat throughout, making smart runs and holding up play.

His persistence was finally rewarded deep into stoppage time when a mistake at the back gave him a rare opportunity — one he buried with ease.

His consistency has kept Genk in the title conversation, even as the race tightens.
However, the defeat means Genk remain in third place, now trailing both Club Brugge who smashed Gent 5-0 and Union by two points. With just a few games left, Genk will need Arokodare at his best to stay in the hunt for the championship.
