After 15 years of waiting and relentless effort, Remo Stars have finally made history, clinching their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes on Matchday 35. The win not only crowned them champions but also marked the culmination of years of perseverance, sacrifice, and unwavering belief.

It was an unforgettable night in Ikenne, Remo Stars triumphed in front of their ecstatic home crowd, securing a moment of glory that had eluded them for over a decade. The result saw them leap to an unassailable lead, leaving their title rivals trailing behind with just three games remaining.

Super-substitute, Adedayo Olamilekan, became the hero of the evening, coming off the bench to deliver a sensational strike from outside the box in the 75th minute. The stunning goal proved to be the only one of the match and sealed Remo Stars’ historic triumph, etching their name in the annals of NPFL history.

The victory marks the culmination of a long and arduous journey for the Ikenne-based club, who have been knocking on the door for several seasons. After finishing 3rd in the 2022 season, and 2nd in both 2023 and 2024, Remo Stars had demonstrated time and again that they had the quality and ambition to compete with the best.

Despite the heartbreak of falling just short in previous campaigns, the 2024/2025 season was one of belief, hard work, and dedication. Head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, deserves much of the credit for his role in transforming Remo Stars into a powerhouse.

Remo Stars’ journey to the title has been remarkable. With three games left in the season, the club has accumulated 68 points — just two shy of last year’s 70-point tally by former champions Rangers. It’s a testament to their consistency and strength throughout the campaign.

The sky-blue stars have been nothing short of dominant at home, remaining unbeaten all season with 16 wins and 2 draws, amassing a league-best 50 points at the Ikenne fortress.

Their impressive home record makes them the only team in the league to remain unbeaten on their own turf. In addition, they’ve shown resilience on the road, picking up 18 points with 5 wins, 3 draws, and 9 losses, contributing significantly to their title charge.

In addition to marking a major milestone for Remo Stars, this victory holds even greater significance for the South Western region of Nigeria. Remo Stars become the first South Western club to win the NPFL title in 25 years, breaking the dominance of clubs from other regions and bringing the coveted trophy back to the region since Julius Berger FC’s victory in the 2000 season.
