Rivers Angels edge Nasarawa Amazons in thriller to win 10th Federation Cup

Rivers Angels pulled off a stunning comeback to win the 2025 President Federation Cup in dramatic fashion, coming from two goals down to beat Nasarawa Amazons 4-2 on penalties after a pulsating 2-2 draw in regulation time at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

Aminat Olushola Shobowale lit up the first half with two quick-fire goals in the 7th and 17th minutes, rocking the pre-match favourites Rivers Angels.

The Nasarawa Amazons striker looked unplayable early on — first rifling into the roof of the net and then calmly slotting past the keeper to double the lead.

Janet Akekoromowei came agonisingly close to extending the lead for Nasarawa when she rattled the woodwork twice in a matter of seconds.

Rivers Angels looked rattled, and the Amazons continued to pile on the pressure as the first half wore on.

With the scores unchanged after 90 minutes, the final headed to a penalty shootout. River’s goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi was the hero, saving one spot kick and converting one herself in a show of nerves and skill.
