Nigerian international defender Kenneth Omeruo has officially signed a two-year contract with Romanian top-flight side CFR Cluj, marking his return to club football after six months as a free agent.
The 31-year-old centre-back completed the move after finalising terms with the Romanian giants late Thursday, following days of intense negotiations.
Omeruo, who last featured for Turkish club Kasımpaşa, was unveiled by CFR Cluj on Friday as their latest high-profile acquisition ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
While Omeruo initially sought a three-year deal to secure his long-term future, CFR Cluj held firm on a two-year offer. The parties eventually found common ground, closing a deal that had been in the works for over a week.

Club sources say Omeruo’s desire to return to elite-level football and compete in Europe played a major role in sealing the agreement.
CFR Cluj are set to participate in the 2025/26 UEFA Europa Conference League, offering the Super Eagles veteran another shot at continental glory.

Currently valued at €1.20 million by Transfermarkt, Omeruo made just five appearances for Kasımpaşa before departing after he picked a serious injury, however, his reputation as a seasoned defender is well established, with stints at Chelsea, Middlesbrough, ADO Den Haag, Leganés, and Alanyaspor.
Internationally, Omeruo debuted for Nigeria at just 19 and played a key role in the Super Eagles’ 2013 AFCON triumph.
He has 69 caps, since represented the national team in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2014 World Cup, and the 2023 AFCON, where Nigeria finished runners-up in Ivory Coast
