Enugu is preparing for a night of fierce boxing action as the Rumble in Enugwu (Mountain Top) event is set to take place on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, at the Parliament Hall, PPSMB Headquarters.
The competition, sanctioned by the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB&C), is being staged by IKEUJ Boxing Promotion under the leadership of Comrade Ikechukwu Okoronkwo
Among the headline fighters are Chinaza Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, nicknamed ‘The Emperor’, Shedrack Ozoemena (‘De-Bull Nwa-Nike’), Zoe Chibuke Okoronkwo, Isreal Ogbodo, Jude Ugwuanyi, Tiger Dan, and The Baron.
Speaking at a press briefing, Comrade Okoronkwo a former national boxer said the competition would feature professional fighters he discovered during the Speaker’s Boxing Talent Championship.
“The event will feature pro boxers I discovered during the Speaker’s talent championship. They are now ripe to box, so they can fight anyone in Nigeria,” he told journalists.
“I obtained some of their professional boxing certification, and some will get theirs next week”.
Ten professional boxers will fight frim Enugu alongside the Olympic undercards of over a 100. The challengers for the elite will be fixed by the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control using the WBC rankings.
Okoronkwo also revealed the competition would include developmental undercards.
“We will showcase under-15 and under-16 boxers , those still developing to help Enugu State prepare for the National Youth Games as well as the National Sports Festival that the state will host in 2026,” he said.

The IKEUJ Boxing Promotion founder credited the Speaker’s Talent Project and state leadership for supporting grassroots sport.
“The elite athletes are the product of the Speaker’s talent championship. It is a developmental project. The Governor of Enugu State and the Speaker gave me the opportunity to go to all 17 local government areas to search for talent,” he added.
Founded in 2002 by Comrade Okoronkwo and his wife Evangelist Obianuju, IKEUJ Boxing Promotion has been instrumental in developing local talent, operating from its Enugu base and Amangwu Arochukwu branch.

The event is being staged in collaboration with the Action Committee on Sports Literacy and the Enugu State government, with hopes of making grassroots boxing a fixture in Nigeria’s sporting calendar.
