Super Eagles and Plateau United goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka has been suspended from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) over allegations of insider betting.
The decision was contained in a statement by NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, who said Plateau United accused Adeyinka after he refused to sign a contract with a prospective club that included an immediate-termination clause for betting offences.
Adeyinka, who joined the Jos-based club from Kwara United in the 2024/25 season on a two-year deal, will have his registration put on hold until the investigation is concluded.

The NPFL said his refusal to sign the new deal reinforced its conviction that the allegations should be treated with urgency.

Under Article 15.5, section B of the NPFL Framework and Rules, players are banned from betting, with offenders facing sanctions under section C.
Owumi stressed that betting on games in which a player is involved “diminishes the integrity of the league and brings the game into disrepute”.

The 28-year-old, who has represented Nigeria at youth level and been called up to the senior squad, was reportedly close to joining Shooting Stars ahead of the new NPFL season starting 22 August.
