Newly Promoted La Liga club Real Oviedo are considering a move for Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho as they search for a striker before the close of the summer transfer window.
The La Liga side began their campaign with defeat to Villarreal, a result that underlined their need for attacking reinforcements.
Club officials at the Carlos Tartiere believe adding a proven centre-forward is essential to their survival hopes.
Iheanacho, 28, joined Sevilla last summer but has struggled for game time last season and was sent on loan to Middlesbrough in January, but the Championship stint did little to revive his form.
The Nigerian forward was listed in the matchday squad for Sevilla and has not been registered to play in the league.
He played 11 matches across all competitions in the first half of the 2024/2025 season scoring 3 goals, all on the Copa Del Rey before he was sent out on loan to Boro where he scored 1 goal in 15 matches.

Sevilla are now willing to accept bids in the region of €3m, making the Nigerian an affordable target for Oviedo, who are working within tight financial limits.

Turkish Super Lig clubs Besiktas and Samsunspor are also interested in the striker and may be able to offer more lucrative deals.
Both clubs have European competitions to offer Iheanacho.

Despite recent struggles, Iheanacho’s pedigree includes spells at Manchester City and Leicester City, where he won the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2021 makes him one of the more experienced forwards still on the market.

Oviedo are weighing Iheanacho against 20-year-old Pau Cabanes, with the final decision likely to depend on whether they prioritise immediate impact or long-term development.
