Super Falcons dispatch Cameroon ahead of WAFCON 2026

Super Falcons of Nigeria produced a commanding comeback to defeat Cameroon 3–1 in an international friendly in Yaounde on Tuesday, three days after suffering a narrow loss in the first meeting between the sides.

The victory offered a timely response from the nine-time African champions as preparations intensify for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Cameroon made a fast start and went ahead inside seven minutes, raising the prospect of back-to-back victories over their long-time rivals.

But Nigeria gradually took control, finding rhythm in midfield and stretching the hosts with width and pace. Head coach Justin Madugu, who rotated his squad following the weekend defeat, was rewarded with a sharper and more cohesive display.

The equaliser arrived in the 32nd minute when Chinwendu Ihezuo rose to meet a delivery from Rinsola Babajide, heading home from close range to bring Nigeria level.

Momentum swung decisively before the interval. Babajide, lively throughout the first half, reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box and fired past the Cameroon goalkeeper in the 43rd minute to give Nigeria the lead.

Nigeria maintained their intensity after half-time, pressing high and limiting Cameroon’s ability to build through midfield.

The third goal came in the 64th minute. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade delivered a precise cross from the right and Michelle Alozie met it with a diving header to extend the advantage and effectively end the contest.

Cameroon struggled to respond as Nigeria’s defensive organisation restricted the hosts to speculative long passes and limited clear chances.
