Super Falcons midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Joy Omewa delivered commanding performances for their clubs in UEFA competitions this week, continuing the rise of Nigerian talent in Europe.
Benfica midfielder Christy Ucheibe, 24, was named Player of the Match as her side earned a 1–1 draw against FC Twente in the 2025–26 UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Deployed in a defensive midfield role, Ucheibe completed 89% of her passes, won two ground duels, made one tackle, one block, five clearances, two headed clearances, and recorded six recoveries.
Benfica initially took the lead through Cristina Martin-Prieto in the 62nd minute, but Twente equalised seven minutes later via Lynn Groenewegen. Ucheibe’s composed display helped Benfica secure their first point of the campaign after losing the opening two games.
