Super Falcons retain top spot in Africa in latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu names a star-studded squad for WAFCON 2024 in Morocco, including Oshoala, Ajibade, and Nnadozie.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have retained their status as the top-ranked women’s national team in Africa, placing 34th globally in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking released for June.

The nine-time African champions earned 1622.49 points during the evaluation period, bolstered by a 2-0 victory over Cameroon in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

South Africa is second in Africa and 54th globally with 1490.06 points, while Morocco ranks third on the continent and 60th in the world with 1419.63 points.

Globally, the United States maintains its position at the top of the standings. Reigning world champions Spain are second, followed by Germany in third. Brazil climbed to fourth place, pushing England down to fifth.

Ahead of the 2025 WAFCON, set to take place in the coming months in Morocco, Nigeria will compete in Group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria.

The Super Falcons, Africa’s top-seeded team, will begin their campaign against Tunisia as they seek a record-extending tenth continental title.

The tournament will also serve as a qualifier for the 2026 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
