Ex-Arsenal star Thomas Partey faces rape and sexual assault charges involving three women. Here’s what we know so far.

Ghana international and Ex Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

The alleged incidents involve three women and are reported to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.

Thomas Partey joined Arsenal in October 2020 from Spanish side Atlético Madrid in a £45.3 million deal. He quickly became a key part of Mikel Arteta’s midfield, known for his physicality, passing range, and leadership on the pitch.

Partey a key player the Black Stars has earned more than 50 caps for Ghana and remains one of the national team’s most recognised figures.

According to the police, Partey faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. Two of the rape charges relate to one woman, three others to a second, while the single sexual assault charge involves a third woman.

The investigation began in February 2022 after police received the first report of rape. Following a lengthy inquiry, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised the charges earlier this week.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, said the focus remains on supporting the women who have come forward.

“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward,” he said. “We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team.”

Partey, who lives in Hertfordshire, is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 5 August.

He made 130 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, scoring nine goals. Last season, he played in 35 league matches and scored four times as Arsenal finished second behind Manchester City.

He also featured prominently in the UEFA Champions League, making 12 appearances and helping Arsenal reach the semi-finals before losing to Paris Saint-Germain.

Partey’s contract with Arsenal officially ended earlier this week. The club has not yet commented publicly on the charges.
