Top English Premier League clubs are interested in signing the 2024 African best player, Ademola Olajade Lookman, and are set to hold talks over a potential transfer. The Nigerian and Atalanta striker has scored 18 goals and 7 assists in 37 games across all competitions for his club side this season.
Lookman’s contract with the La Dea is coming to a close, and he is set to leave the Gewiss Stadium this summer. Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal have shown keen interest in signing the Nigerian star, as talks will be held in the coming weeks. The former Leicester City attacker is one of the most sought-after forwards in European football, and with a future in Atalanta currently out of the question, interest is heating up.
According to reports, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona has reached out to Lookman’s representatives to discuss a potential transfer, although the club’s financial situation could hinder a deal. Juventus is also prioritizing a move for Lookman, but Atalanta has increased their asking price to approximately €65 million, which is €10 million more than what they would accept from clubs outside Italy.

The Premier League looks like a perfect fit for Lookman, and a return to the place where he started his football career would make headlines, but he’s spoilt for choice. For Chelsea, he’ll be an undisputed starter.

Enzo Maresca’s side are in a tough situation with Jadon Sancho, and none of their wingers have been exceptional. Bringing Lookman in would make the Blues title contenders, plus, he can play as a makeshift centre-forward.
Arsenal, meanwhile, is facing depth issues in their attack. Lookman would be a great fit on the left side of Mikel Arteta’s offensive setup and would be a significant upgrade over Gabriel Martinelli. The Gunners are looking to add a trophy to their cabinet, and acquiring the 2024 UEFA Europa League winner would enhance their chances.
Unfortunately, the incredible level of competition is not the only potential barrier Arsenal will have to contend with, as Atalanta reportedly values their star at up to €65m, which is about £55m. It could be a complicated and costly transfer to get over the line, but given Lookman has had a “monster year” in the words of broadcaster Maximiliano Bretos and was nominated for the Ballon d’Or in 2024, it would be worth fighting for.

Liverpool also need to replace Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota in the summer, while Manchester United are dreadful in attack.
