Transfer: Premier league club among top sides interested in Ademola Lookman this summer

The two-time UEFA Champions League winner Nottingham Forest has joined the line in the chase for Ademola Lookman, Atalanta, and the Super Eagles forward.

Lookman’s form has caught the attention of many clubs in a season that looks like his final one under Gian Piero Gasperini in Bergamo.

He has maintained his goal-scoring energy for his club side this season. With 18 goals and six assists in all competitions, the 27-year-old is in his second-best season in terms of attacking output, which is a decent number considering the number of injuries he’s dealt with this season.

Last summer, Paris Saint-Germain showed interest in signing the former Fulham attacker, but the deal was cut-off. Instead, Luis Enrique’s side opted to acquire Desire Doue from Stade Rennes and, in January, pursued Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli.

According to PSG Talks, the French Ligue 1 champions have withdrawn from the competition to sign Lookman, as they already have many options on the flanks.

It is believed that Nottingham Forest is eager to acquire Lookman’s services and plans to aim for Champions League qualification to present an attractive offer for the Nigerian player.

Based on the tension behind the scenes at Atalanta, it is believed a bid around £43m could be enough to move the former Everton star to the City Ground.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side faces stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur as the Londoners are also weighing up a bid for the ex-Leicester forward who grew up in London, and it is widely believed a move back home appeals to Lookman.

Aston Villa have been credited with an interest even though they are still finalising their summer plans. Unai Emery’s side are prioritising a permanent move for Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford instead, but should their plans falter, Lookman is an alternative.

Lookman might want to prove himself among the Premier League’s elites after his stints in England didn’t turn out well before he found his feet with Atalanta.

His current deal with the Italian side runs out next season. With no talks of a new contract in place, Gasperini’s side would be wise to let the Super Eagles star off the books this summer, or else they risk losing him for free after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
